Week Without Violence: Luminary Night

Luminary Night is a community vigil held at the end of our Week Without Violence to honor victims of violence and to show support for survivors.  Community members purchase kits from the YWCA and on Sunday evening, October 22nd,  they light them outside their homes at dusk. Often neighborhoods coordinate to light their block together and gather as a community.

Those who purchase luminary kits online can pick them up at the YWCA. We encourage neighborhoods to designate “block captains” to coordinate purchase and pickup for their neighborhoods.

For each luminary kit sold, the YWCA will donate an item to the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC). Our Youth Empowerment Committee will use the items to make Welcome Baskets for DVCC clients moving into new housing.
