As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we applau

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we applaud the contributions of Latina workers and call for action to close the pay gap. While all women are affected by the pay gap, Latina workers suffer the worst pay gap of all. Several studies have found a strong association between domestic violence and poverty, including a study by Anna Aizer of Brown University suggesting that "decreases in the wage gap reduce violence against women."

Financial literacy is a crucial component in helping women change their circumstances. Our Economic Empowerment Initiative, launching in October, will serve unemployed and underemployed women in the greater Norwalk community and provide coursework in digital literacy, financial literacy, career readiness skills, job effectiveness skills, and mentorship.

The YWCA's Network of Working Women program can help the women in our community build their professional network and get the support they need to succeed. We believe that all women should have the opportunity to succeed in their careers and reach their goals.
