Week Without Violence 2023

Domestic violence is a serious public health problem that affects millions of people every year.

According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. In addition, 1 in 7 women and 1 in 25 men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner.

The YWCA Darien/Norwalk’s Week Without Violence is an annual campaign held in the third week of October to raise awareness of and promote action to end violence against women, young women, and girls. We invite everyone in the community to participate in the Week Without Violence and to join us in the fight to end violence against women, young women, and girls.

Luminary Night is a community vigil held to honor victims of violence and to show support for survivors.  On Sunday evening, October 22nd we ask that you light them outside their homes at dusk. Often neighborhoods coordinate to light their block together and gather as a community.

You can purchase your Luminary Kits below or at Palmers Market in Darien.
Those who purchase luminary kits online can pick them up at the YWCA. We encourage neighborhoods to designate “block captains” to coordinate purchase and pickup for their neighborhood.
