Domestic violence is a serious public health problem that affects millions of people every year.
Week Without Violence is part of a global movement with YWCAs across the country and around the world to end violence against women and girls. At YWCA, we know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally and that some victims go unrecognized altogether. That’s why, for more than 20 years, YWCA has set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence.
Join us from October 20-25th, as we raise awareness, elevate survivor voices, and unite our community with a common goal: centering survivors so that together, we can end gender-based violence.
This year’s week of events includes a robust social media awareness campaign, a virtual Parent Awareness discussion on healthy dating and warning signs in partnership with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC), a Soul Punch self-defense class led by women for women, and our culminating Illumination Night vigil, when businesses and neighbors light up the community in solidarity with survivors.
Empowerment Lights will be on sale soon.
Information about Empowerment Lights pick up dates and times will be provided closer to the event. We encourage neighborhoods to designate “block captains” to coordinate purchase and pickup for their neighborhood.
