Week Without Violence 2024

Domestic violence is a serious public health problem that affects millions of people every year.

Week Without Violence is part of a global movement with YWCAs across the country and around the world to end violence against women and girls. At YWCA, we know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally and that some victims go unrecognized altogether. That’s why, for more than 20 years, YWCA has set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence.

Join us from October 21-26th, as we raise awareness, elevate survivor voices, and unite our community with a common goal: centering survivors so that together, we can end gender-based violence.

This year we have several powerful events planned throughout the week.  Please see below for more information and to register for each event.

Capping off our week of events, on Saturday, October 26th, we are asking the community to participate in our annual Illumination Night – a community wide vigil held to honor victims of violence and show support for survivors. Please join with your neighbors, local businesses and other non-profit organizations around town in lighting your Empowerment Lights outside your home or business at dusk.

You can purchase your Empowerment Lights below or at Palmers Market in Darien.

Information about Empowerment Lights pick up dates and times will be provided closer to the event. We encourage neighborhoods to designate “block captains” to coordinate purchase and pickup for their neighborhood.
