Passed on this day in 1972, Title IX banned sex-ba

Passed on this day in 1972, Title IX banned sex-based discrimination in any school receiving federal funds, changing the game for generations of girls and women.

In Connecticut, its impact is unmistakable. After Title IX, UConn expanded women’s athletics, laying the groundwork for the rise of UConn Women’s Basketball, now one of the most dominant women's collegiate sports programs.

Today we also celebrate Dr. Donna Lopiano, a Stamford native, and Southern Connecticut State University alumna and athlete. As former CEO of the Women’s Sports Foundation, she helped lead the national fight for equity in sports for decades.

As Title IX protections face renewed challenges, we must stay vigilant, and remain committed to advancing a future where exclusion based on sex has no place in our society.

Did you know?

Juneteenth has been celebrated for over 150 years and is now the longest-running African American holiday in the United States.

June 19, 1865 is the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, to ensure enslaved people were finally freed. Yet it wasn’t until 2021 that Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday.

Join us, today and every day, in honoring the resilience, liberation, and ongoing work still ahead.

🎓 The cutest little graduates are officially heading off to pre-school in the Fall! We’re so proud of our Toddler Time crew as they take this big step, and we’ll miss their sweet faces next year!

Looking for a first school experience for your little one? There are a few spots left in our Toddler Time drop-off program for 2-year-olds (give or take), offering an engaging classroom experience with free play, storytime, music, art, and a provided snack each day.

✅ 3-days-a-week (option of M/W/F or T/ Th/F) from 9:15-11:15
✅ No potty-training required
✅ No strict age cutoff

As the school year wraps up, our Youth Empowerment Committee is giving back! 🎒

We’re collecting new or in good condition backpacks for children and teens in need. All donations will go to the @bptrescuemission.
