DESCRIPTION:Community members donated their gently used costumes which you can “shop” on October 8th. \nStop by the YWCA to pick out costumes for your children. \n\n10am-12pm Members \n12pm-2pm Non-Members\n\n$25 tax-deductible donation per family suggested. \nAny remaining costumes will be donated to families at Open Doors Norwalk.  \n

SUMMARY:Week Without Violence
DESCRIPTION:According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline\, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. In addition\, 1 in 7 women and 1 in 25 men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner. \nThe YWCA Darien/Norwalk’s Week Without Violence is an annual campaign held in the third week of October to raise awareness of and promote action to end violence against women\, young women\, and girls. We invite everyone in the community to participate in the Week Without Violence and to join us in the fight to end violence against women\, young women\, and girls. \nLuminary Night is a community vigil held to honor victims of violence and to show support for survivors.  On Sunday evening\, October 22nd we ask that you light them outside their homes at dusk. Often neighborhoods coordinate to light their block together and gather as a community. \nYou can purchase your Luminary Kits here or at Palmers Market in Darien. \nThose who purchase luminary kits online can pick them up at the YWCA. We encourage neighborhoods to designate “block captains” to coordinate purchase and pickup for their neighborhood.

SUMMARY:Week Without Violence: Luminary Night
DESCRIPTION:Luminary Night is a community vigil held at the end of our Week Without Violence to honor victims of violence and to show support for survivors.  Community members purchase kits from the YWCA and on Sunday evening\, October 22nd\,  they light them outside their homes at dusk. Often neighborhoods coordinate to light their block together and gather as a community. \n  \nYou can purchase your Luminary Kits here or at Palmers Market in Darien.\nThose who purchase luminary kits online can pick them up at the YWCA. We encourage neighborhoods to designate “block captains” to coordinate purchase and pickup for their neighborhoods. \n  \nFor each luminary kit sold\, the YWCA will donate an item to the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC). Our Youth Empowerment Committee will use the items to make Welcome Baskets for DVCC clients moving into new housing.
