YWCA Youth Empowerment Committee

Mission

Our mission is to align with the YWCA’s missions of eliminating racism and empowering women through the youth within our community.

Our Goal

Our goal is to cultivate community growth through youth action and to help them develop a strong leadership mentality when it comes to inciting change. This will promote students to take initiative, help them to gain an awareness of their communities needs and encourage them to reach their fullest potential. We want to create an inclusive space for high school aged youth to grow an understanding of how to be an effective leader, and give them the tools to achieve lasting change in the community. These actions will be focused on the YWCA’s missions of eliminating racism and empowering women.

We aim to bring together youth of diverse backgrounds and school systems to promote a comprehensive idea of the perspectives across Darien and Norwalk. This role will be a hands-on opportunity for youth engagement, which can take the form of volunteer work, leadership roles, project management, event planning, and much more. We will be working towards addressing local issues that the community feel are not fully being acknowledged. We would love to get Norwalk students involved in this unique platform and continue to work towards inclusion and social justice together.

Our Vision

We plan to have a combination of monthly in-person and zoom meetings that will be about an hour long, through out the school calendar year. We expect that members attend 6 out of the 8 meetings. We also plan to have various volunteer opportunities and events throughout the year. Our expectation is that committee members will attend these volunteer opportunities and events, we are hoping that members will take part in about 60% of them (as we progress this number will become more clear).

About Us

The Youth Empowerment Committee aims to be a unique, inclusive space that uplifts and celebrates each of its members because we believe in the power of passion, compassion and leadership. We believe in providing every student with the opportunity to blossom to their fullest potential through helping each of our team members discover their true talents, passions, gifts and skills.

Organizations

As a group we hope to partner with as many local organizations as possible. Below is a list of the organizations that we are currently working with or have worked with in the past. We hope to continue to increase this list as we progress and grow as a group.
